Saginaw & Saginaw County

Electrician in Saginaw, MI

Historic homes on both sides of the Saginaw River, newer subdivisions in the townships, and plenty of commercial work in between.

Saginaw was built by lumber and later by the auto industry, and its housing spans more than a century. Old Saginaw City on the West Side and the older neighborhoods on the East Side have homes from the late 1800s and early 1900s; Saginaw Township and the outlying townships filled in with homes from the postwar years onward.

That range shows up in the electrical. The oldest homes can still have fuse boxes, ungrounded outlets and old wiring. Mid-century homes often have panels at the end of their useful life. Newer homes run out of panel space when someone adds a hot tub, a shop or an EV charger.

Blasy Electric supports the community across the region, including the Saginaw Spirit.

Can two-prong outlets in my Saginaw home be swapped for three-prong outlets?

Not simply by swapping the outlet. A three-prong outlet needs a ground, and installing one without a ground is a code violation and a false sense of safety.

The fixes are running a ground, rewiring the circuit, or installing GFCI protection and labeling the outlets ‘No equipment ground’, which the electrical code allows. An electrician can tell you which fits your wiring.
